I love seeing an idea come together on paper. Many times artist have a hard time describing in words what certain emotions, moods, or auditory memories look like. I myself experience life through a never ending myriad of images brought on by conversation or by words on print or by how I perceive something to be. For this painting I was trying to capture what addiction looks like to me. It seems a never ending struggle with one’s self and I wanted that struggle to be a part of the narrative whilst also revealing the calm that surfaces once in awhile. I asked my brother to be my model and I took a series of pictures that were very helpful to reference when beginning the work on this painting. I decided that watercolor would be the appropriate medium to illustrate this seeing as I could play with the transparency and I think it brought the painting together.
